The government has started evaluating the extent of the damage caused by ongoing floods across the country, and said it is preparing a stockpile of seeds that will be distributed among affected farmers.
Teams made up of officials from the Ministry of Agriculture are now in Battambang and Banteay Meanchey, in the northwest, and Preah Sihanouk, Koh Kong and Kampong Speu, in the south, collecting information on the aftermath of the floods, which have been caused by heavy downpours throughout the county and the collapse of a dam in neighbouring Lao.
“We are now waiting to hear the reports from the inspection teams, but we have already stockpiled seeds that will be given to affected farmers,” Hean Vanhan, director of the General Directorate of Agriculture, said.
