Sambor Prei Kuk, a world heritage site in Kampong Thom province, saw a 67 percent hike in international visitors and a tenfold increase in local visitors in the first half of 2018.
The temples received nearly 12,300 international tourists and 111,500 locals, according to Phan Nady, director of the General Department of the National Authority at Sambor Prei Kuk.
The increase in the number of tourists is boosting business activity around the temples, he said.
“It has increase souvenir sales and encouraged people to open restaurants around the area. Before these operators were farming,” he said.
