Cambodia airports eye winter surge

Cambodia will see a slight rise in air traffic next year as airlines increase services during the winter period, according to the country's airport operator Soci?t? Concessionnaire des A?roports (SCA).

SCA CEO Nicolas Deviller said next year?s passenger traffic at Phnom Penh International Airport would increase by 3.6 per cent, while Siem Reap International Airport is anticipating a passenger traffic growth of 5.6 per cent, according to Deviller.

SCA operates and manages Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanouk International Airports, and has reported a number of new slot requests by airlines during the coming winter from October 25 to March 29, 2010.

They include Korean Air?s new Busan-Siem Reap service, Lao Aviation?s Vientiane-Siem Reap service, Japan Airlines? charter flights to Siem Reap, Asiana?s flight to Siem Reap and Dragonair?s increased capacity. National carrier Cambodia Angkor Air will operate 28 weekly movements to Phnom Penh and 42 to Siem Reap.

Deviller attributed improved facilities and services at Cambodia?s international airports as key factors for the growth.
