Cebu Pacific to launch direct flights to Cambodia in April

Cebu Pacific Air, the Philippines' national flag carrier, will launch regular direct flights between the Philippines' Manila to Cambodia's Siem Reap province from April, Noe Albano Vong, the ambassador of the Philippines to Cambodia, said on Thursday.

Noe unveiled the plan during a meeting with Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, minister in charge of the Council of Ministers.The ambassador said that there would be four direct flights a week between the two destinations by using an Airbus 319, Ek Tha, deputy director of the Press Unit at the Council of Ministers, told reporters after the meeting.

"It will be the first and historic direct flight between the two countries," said Ek Tha. "The upcoming flights will help boost mutual tourism."Cambodia's Siem Reap province houses Angkor Wat temples, one of the world heritage sites. Last year, the temples attracted 1.6 million foreign visitors, up 23 percent year-on-year.

With the Philippines' direct flight announcement, so far Cambodia has connected direct flights with eight ASEAN member countries, except Indonesia.The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
