The Dolphin Watching Tourism in the Mekong River Project Appreciated

The Dolphin-Watching Tourism in the Mekong River has contributed to the tourism development in the northeastern part of the country, especially in Kratie and Stung Treng provinces, H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The project has led to strengthen other tour destinations in the northeastern provinces such as Vihear Sasar Moy Ray (100 pillars Temple) in Kratie, community tours, cycling and boat tours, etc., he said.

“Mekong river dolphin is not a fish, it is a rare mammal that needs to be further preserved,” he pointed out at the press conference.

Mr. H. Varma, Dolphin-Watching Tourism in the Mekong River Project Manager said it is one of the achievements of the tourism development in Kratie and Stung Treng.

It has brought many foreign visitors to know more clearly about the Mekong River’s potentials, he said.

Mr. Run Pheara, Director of Kratie Provincial Tourism Department, said in the first quarter of the year, the province received 6,290 foreign visitors, up 8.36 percent if compared to the same period of the previous year, while the number of local tourists reached 42,700, up 32.8 percent.
