Siem Reap in Cambodia became the best Asian tourist destination city

Chalermsak Suranan, director of the Chiang Mai Office of Tourism Authority of Thailand, said Chiang Mai has become a fixture on the global tourism map because last year it was also selected as one of the top ten tourist destinations in the world by Lonely Planet.

According to Chalermsak, the top five tourist destinations in the world are London, New York, Rome, Paris, and San Francisco.

Siem Reap in Cambodia became the best Asian tourist destination city selected by Trip Advisor. It ranks ninth on the top 25 tourist destination cities in the world.

Chalermsak said his office would campaign for local people to preserve their good traditions so that Chiang Mai would remain an exotic destination for foreign tourists.

He said the TAT Chiang Mai Office would not stop promoting Chiang Mai among foreign tourists and that the office would launch campaigns to promote Chiang Mai tourism in Middle East countries, India and Indonesia. He said his office was also making plans to draw more tourists form Austria and Japan.
