The six-day Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta Trade, Tourism and Investment Fair opened yesterday in An Giang province.
The annual event, the fourth of its kind, attracted foreign investors with nearly 500 booths with Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Germany accounting for 15 per cent of them. The fair features farm produce, seafood, foodstuffs, garments and textiles, footwear, household appliances, machinery, consumer goods, construction materials, interior furniture, fine arts and tourism products.
"The event, as part of the national trade promotion programme, is a great opportunity for the two countries of Viet Nam and Cambodia, which have a lot of consumption tastes in common, to promote economic development in border areas and co-operation on trade, tourism and investment," Ho Thi Kim Thoa, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade said in her address at the opening ceremony.
"It will help open more investment opportunities and enhance the understanding in trade activities between the two countries," Thoa said. A seminar to introduce investment opportunities and exchange experiences on business dealings in Cambodia and a market survey trip to the Kingdom will be held on the sidelines of the event.
Poor farmers will receive free health check-ups and medicine during the fair at Xuan To Industrial Park near Tinh Bien International Border Gate until May 26.
