BANGKOK, 1 August 2014: Apart from moving the annual elephant polo tournament from Hua Hin to Bangkok this year, ‘ladies’ will have their day in the sun on the tournament sidelines, 30 August, for a fun day of “fashion, giggles and bubbles”.
No explanation was given for the bubbles, but the day-long fancy dress statement by Bangkok’s Hi-So ladies is likely to attract a bigger crowd than the polo games.
The event moves to Bangkok, this year, to allow organisers to preview a grand elephant parade that will be held in the Thai capital in 2015.
That event will feature 50 elephants on parade in the city, but the preview during the annual polo event this month will have 10 elephants to provide advance publicity for next year’s mega parade.
Back to Ladies Day, this year’s prime entertainment, special fashion police will be patrolling the grounds and the best dressed ladies will be given a ticket.
Ladies with tickets will enter the final round to win a dream holiday, which includes five nights at NIYAMA by Per AQUUM in the Maldives.
The prize includes: A water studio with pool for two people with all breakfasts and dinners included, plus a couple’s massage in the resort’s LIME Spa, all valued at THB250,000.
Ladies attending the event take an Elemis Spa with skin mapping, skin analysis demonstrations and mini massages to help them relax.
Male spectators are expected to make do with chilled beer and hot dogs.
So whether you are watching the exciting trunk-to-trunk action on field, sipping champagne in the VIP area or simply there for a good old-fashioned girly day out, the 13th annual King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament should be in your calendar.
It also happens to be the largest charity events in Thailand and has raised over USD750,000 for various charity projects that aim to better the lives of Thailand’s wild and domesticated elephant population.
The event this year is being held at the Siam Polo Park at VR Sports Club Bangkok 28 to 31 August.
Anantara Hotels Resorts and Spas recently announced their partnership with the founders of the world famous Elephant Parade®. It will bring to Bangkok the largest open air art exhibition in support of Asian Elephants to in 2015.
The exhibition will see a herd of more than 5o brightly coloured elephants –decorated and hand painted by artists and celebrities – on parade on the streets of Bangkok. Money raised at the event will go to the Asian Elephant and The Golden Triangle Asian Elephant foundations.
To give Bangkok a taste of Elephant Parade 2015, Anantara will showcase 10 of the elephants at the 13th Annual King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament from 27 August to 1 September.
