HANOI Vietjet and the Boeing Company signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC), earlier this month, that will lead to Boeing providing broader support in training, marketing and branding.
Vietjet’s Board of Management vice chairman, Nguyen Thanh Hung and Boeing International Government Relations vice president, Stanley Roth, signed the landmark collaboration deal, 8 July, in the presence of Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in his first official visit to the United States to mark the 20th anniversary of the normalisation of relations between the United States and Vietnam.
The MoC calls for both parties to initiate cooperative efforts to support the goal of expanding Vietjet’s fleet with Boeing commercial jet aircraft and related goods and services.
Vietjet will buy more Boeing aircraft and further discussions will be held on fleet planning, commercial terms, flight and maintenance training, marketing, branding, and financing.

Mr Nguyen Thanh Hung, Vietjet’s vice chairman of Board of Management and Mr Stanley Roth, vice president, international government relations signed the MoC.
Vietjet’s Board of Management vice chairman, Nguyen Thanh Hung, said our continuous investment in a new and modern fleet is crucial to Vietjet’s development strategies in the Asia-Pacific.
“The collaboration is expected to bring more business opportunities to both Vietjet and Boeing.”
Vietjet has recorded impressive growth since launching operations in late 2011 and its previous purchasing plans for 107 aircraft will not keep up with developing demand.
The airline currently operates a fleet of 25 A321 and A320 aircraft and plans to add four more aircraft by the end of 2015.
During the recent Paris Air Show 2015, Vietjet also ordered six more additional A321 aircraft for delivery during 2017.
VietJet also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), earlier this month, with JP Morgan Chase for the US bank to arrange financing in ECA supported aircraft purchase and leases for Vietjet’s current and future fleet plans.
Currently, Vietjet operates 150 flights daily.
It has already opened 33 air routes inside Vietnam and between Vietnam and cities in Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Cambodia and China.
The airline has already transported more than 12.5 million passengers since the beginning more than three years ago.
