Asia’s hotel pipeline grows

LONDON  Asia-Pacific’s hotel pipeline currently extends to 2,393 hotels totalling 556,637 rooms according to the latest STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.
China has the largest share of new rooms under construction followed by India and Indonesia.
Released, earlier this week, the report maps hotel developments “under contract” in the Asia-Pacific region.
STR said the pipeline has increased by 4.3% in rooms under contract compared with September 2014, although there was a 2.7% year-over-year decrease in rooms under construction.
inside no 5The under contract data includes projects in the construction, final planning and planning stages but does not include projects in the unconfirmed stage.
The region reported 252,686 rooms in 1,013 hotels under construction for the month.
Among the countries in the region, China reported the most rooms under construction with 141,656 rooms in 441 hotels. Two other countries reported more than 20,000 rooms under construction: India (24,900 rooms), and Indonesia (24,014 rooms).
