HANOI Vietnam Airlines is planning a new route from Hanoi to Prague in Czech Republic.
Local media reported that the Vietnamese national flag carrier confirmed long-term interest in opening the route after it established a general sales agent in Prague, last week.
It said it was the first step that would establish sales channels with the travel trade in Prague before a flight could be introduced at a later date.
Vietnam Airlines’ office in Europe director, Nguyen Quoc Phuong, said the GSA would survey the market and carry out promotion activities with retail travel and ticketing agencies.
The GSA’s representative, Pavel Dubovy, noted there was considerable interest from Czech tourists who see Vietnam as an emerging destination in ASEAN.
There is also a growing outbound market in Vietnam as the economy improves and more residents plan overseas holidays.
Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. Main attractions include the Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock, the Jewish Quarter, Petřín hill and Vyšehrad.
Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
The city also boasts more than 10 major museums, along with numerous theatres, galleries, cinemas, and other historical exhibits.
