Danang focuses on golf tourism

DANANG Vietnam National Administration of Tourism says boosting golf tourism in Danang will stimulate quality tourism and drive economic growth in the central region.

Local media quoted VNAT deputy head, Ngo Hoai Chung, saying the country has 32 golf courses, nationwide, and another 60 are planned, but golf tourism has yet to take off due to poor business connections between travel agencies and golf tour operators.

“Links among travel agencies, golf courses operators and golf tournaments combined with MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions),  have been very poor.”

He suggested the country should offer better facilities for golf tourists, promote golf tournaments on social networks and create partnerships with regional golf courses in ASEAN.

“Central coastal provinces of Thua Thien-Hue, Nha Trang and Danang are ideal places for golf course development,” he said.

Vietnam Olympic Committee vice chairman, Le Van Kiem, added Vietnam should establish a Tourism Golf Association to work with regional associations and tournaments.

Danang earned USD68 million in 2016 from golf tourism, and the city expects to increase the figure to USD186 million in the next five years when three more golf courses open, the report said.

Danang and neighbouring provinces of Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue are popular sites in central Vietnam, with beautiful golf courses designed by Nick Faldo, Greg Norman, Collin Montgomerie and Luke Donald.
