Phuket Gazette ends print edition

PHUKET Phuket Gazette will stop publishing its hard copy newspaper at the end of May and will instead concentrate on its online news service in cooperation with the Nation.

The Nation recently expanded its online presence by closing a deal to take over ThaiVisa.com which was part of a wider plan to consolidate its strengths in online news services and media.

Commenting on the demise of the Phuket Gazette print newspaper, C9 Hotelworks founder Bill Barnett said: “While the development is bittersweet, the reality of online media is a given.”

Resident in Phuket since 2000, Barnett added: “The paper was always a vast lifeline of local news and while it was not always the cup of tea for everyone, in my opinion the service to the community was outstanding.”
