MADRID UNWTO’s executive council has recommended Zurab Pololikashvili, from Georgia, as the nominee for the post of secretary-general for the four-year-period starting January 2018.
The announcement was made at the weekend during the 105th meeting of the executive council of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) attended by some 250 representatives from 59 countries.
The meeting also focused on current trends and identified three priorities in business focus; safe, secure and seamless travel; impact of technology in the tourism sector and sustainability.
UNWTO has declared 2017 the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
The recommendation on the appointment of the secretary general will be submitted to the 22nd UNWTO General Assembly for ratification, 11 to 16 September in Chengu, China.
