BANGKOK NokScoot and Thai AirAsia X has received AOC Re-Certification from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, earlier this week, that complies with ICAO’s standards.
CAAT’s general director, Chula Sukmanop, said NokScoot and Thai AirAsia X are the fourth and fifth carriers to be re-granted AOCs, based on compliance guidelines issued by ICAO.
The first three re-certified airlines were Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia and Thai Airways International.
“This marks a special milestone as both airlines only operate flights international flights, differing from the previous three airlines re-certified to meet International Civil Aviation Organisation’s safety standards.”
To date, the CAAT has awarded the air operator’s certificate (AOC) to five Thai-registered airlines. This covers approximately 77% of the international routes that Thai-registered airlines operate.
With regards to correcting 33 findings of Significant Safety Concern (SSC) outlined in an ICAO memo, significant progress has been made, with more than 80% of the issues now resolved.
By the end of this month, CAAT plans to submit a request to ICAO to perform an ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) in order to end the country’s red flag status.
The country has been on the red-flag list since June 2015 when ICAO notified Thailand’s Department of Civil Aviation (now defunct) that its supervision of the industry was substandard.
