BANGKOK SkalThailand’s prestigious Malai Sakolviphak Award has been presented to Michael Biedermann, former president of the Skal Club of Samui Island.

The presentation was made by Skal Thailand president, Dale Lawrence, during the Samui club’s monthly networking dinner.

The award is presented annually to a Skal member in Thailand who has made a significant contribution to the organisation over an extended period.

Addressing some 60 Skal club members on the island, Lawrence explained that the annual award was made in memory of Malai Sakolviphak, a well-known and highly respected tourism industry figure in Thailand who passed away in late 2011 after many years of distinguished service to the Skal movement at local, national and international level.

“The award recognises Michael Biedermann’s dedication and determination throughout his tenure as Skal president on Samui. In his six years of unbroken service he restored the club’s integrity and worked tirelessly, with excellent support from his executive committee, to build and to sustain Skal membership on this popular island,” added Lawrence.
