HANOI Hanoi People’s Committee will issue regulations for the walking area around Hoan Kiem Lake in August.

Vietnam Net Bridges quoted the committee chairman, Nguyen Duc Chung, saying the committee reviewed negative issues concerning Hoan Kiem Lake’s walking area.

Authorities have identified problems such as public health, sanitation, dog walking, toy car rental services and poor-quality cultural events that could deter people from using the walking area.

“Hoan Kiem People’s Committee will set up regulations for the area, which will be released next month, to address these issues,” he said.

Prohibiting traffic in the area during weekends, a core element to ensure the city’s plan for the recreation area materialise, is  already underway. The city wants to ban all personal vehicles in inner districts by 2030.

The chairman stressed that the city will not completely ban the use of motorbikes in some central areas of the inner city but they will definitely be limits on vehicle traffic.

Hoan Kiem Lake is located in the heart of the capital, just a few minutes walk from the Old Quarter.

Hanoi welcomed nearly 12 million tourists in the first six months of the year, earning about USD1.54 billion, representing year-on-year increases of 8% and 13%, respectively. The number of foreigners visiting Hanoi reached 2.3 million, up 14% against the same period last year, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.
