The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority will be heading a delegation from Sharjah to the high profile travel and tourism event being held from October 19 to 21 at the Suntec Singapore Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The ITB Asia offers a great platform to leading players of the travel and tourism industry to promote their niche markets and network and work together with other participants to boost the tourism industry.

In the past few years, the Asian tourist's interest in Sharjah has grown steadily and significantly. The number of tourists from Asia that Sharjah received in the first six months of 2011 stood at 135,764, a remarkable increase of 27 per cent over last year when the emirate received 106,859 Asian tourists in the same period.

The Sharjah delegation led by SCTDA includes the Sharjah International Airport Authority, Aryana Hotel and Coral Beach Resort and various government officials. The participation in the Singapore event is part of the Authority's strategy to promote the emirate at leading travel and tourism exhibitions and events around the world.

Encouraged by the remarkable success of the past two years, the SCTDA officials and other members of the delegation hope to make the most of the participation in the Singapore exhibition this year. The Singapore exhibition presents an excellent opportunity to attract Asian tourists as well as investments in tourism sector.

As in the past, Sharjah is going to unveil an attractive stand at ITB Asia representing the unique identity of the emirate and celebrating its numerous tourist attractions. The SCTDA officials are looking forward to showcasing the tremendous progress the emirate has made over the past few years in the tourism sector, infrastructure and the quality of services offered to international visitors. The Singapore exhibition provides an opportunity to market the distinct nature of Sharjah's tourist attractions and the wide range of tourism products and services it offers.

In addition to Sharjah's unique geographical position that helps it connect with the West and East, it is the only Emirate with ports on the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, which have contributed to the emirate's distinguished commercial identity as a business and commerce hub.

The emirate also offers a busy year-long calendar of world-class sports, cultural and social events such as the Sharjah Water Festival, the Sharjah Light Festival, the Sharjah Grand Prix, the U.I.M. F1H2O World Championship, the International Book Fair and many, many others.
