The Magistrate court in Kuala Lumpur ordered Malaysian Airlines System Berhad to pay RM9,675 as compensation for losing a passenger?s luggage at the baggage claim area of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport four years ago.
The court, on Monday, ordered the airline to compensate a manager of an aviation company, Kang Guat Pheng, from Kuantan, Pahang, who had filed the case with the court in May 2007.
It was also ordered to pay court costs and 8% interest per annum on the plaintiff?s claim, beginning from the date of judgement in late 2006 to the date of settlement.
In her application, Ms Kang said that she had boarded a MAS flight, 26 December 2006, from Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to KLIA. She claimed that upon arrival at the airport, 10 kg of luggage was missing from the baggage claim area and that she suffered losses in terms of personal belongings and valuables worth RM9,675.
MAS in its defence, earlier, alleged that Ms Kang failed to declare her valuables before boarding the flight. It had offered her US$300 in compensation at the time of her complaint.
