Ecotourism is renowned for its association with protected areas and special places with cultural linkages. ASEAN and Asia-Pacific nations alike are proactively pursuing ecotourism – linking nature, culture and communities in tourism.
The Asia Pacific region dominates the list of the New 7 Wonders of the World. World Heritage sites, Biosphere Reserves, National Parks and private nature reserves are prime locations for ecotourism. Urban ecotourism too has developed apace. Collectively these ‘eco-wonders’ present significant opportunities for sustainable tourism. The Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference in 2012 will focus on optimising the ecotourism potential of ‘eco-wonders’.
The Global Eco Asia-Pacific Tourism Conference brings together leading practitioners from around the globe to present and discuss the key drivers of ecotourism in areas that could be described as ‘eco-wonders’. Planning, product development, strategic partnerships, understanding markets, effective marketing, yield maximisation, destination stewardship and community and indigenous involvement in tourism are critical to the conference agenda.
The Conference brings together a delegation that is made up of a broad range of sectors that play a direct and indirect role in delivering sustainable tourism and ecotourism. Each conference has dealt with contemporary issues and deliberately seeks to engage stakeholders in sustainability and ecotourism: operators; government; industry associations; the conservation sector; high tech sustainability product providers and services.
