ASIA - The organiser of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2013 TRAVEX has announced the travel industry exhibition has sold out with a 40 per cent increase in stands year-on-year.

One thousand exhibitors from 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries have booked 460 stands at the ATF TRAVEX 2013, due to be held in Laos at the Lao International Trade Exhibition and Convention Centre from 22 to 24 January 2013. This annual event involves all the tourism industry sectors of the 10 ASEAN member nations Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR (Laos), Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The exhibition boasts 75 corporate booths, the highest number achieved by the event thus far, with 35 per cent of exhibitors attending the trade show for the first time this year. Host country Laos participates with its largest ever contingent at ATF.

The show’s hosted buyer programme attracted 1,100 registrations, of which only some 380 quality buyers will be selected for hosting at the event. In addition, more than 50 buyers will attend as non-hosted buyers. Through focused efforts over the past year, the TRAVEX Secretariat has attracted buyers from new countries such as Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Ireland, Israel, Laos, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka and Taiwan. In all, 57 per cent of buyers are expected to be new at this year’s event.

Each year the hosting of ATF is rotated among the member countries. ATF 2013 marks the 32nd anniversary of this event since its inauguration in Malaysia in 1981.
