TRANG, 21 December 2012: Tourism Authority of Thailand estimates 1.15 million visitors, both foreigners and Thais, will visit Trang this year, an increase of 14%.
TAT Trang office director, Charun Chuennaitom, said Trang is emerging as an alternative destination to Phuket and Krabi two southern provinces that lead in the tourism stakes, but are overcrowded and suffer from a decline in security and growing crime rates.
“The province has its own style local culture, abundance of natural resources and outstanding cuisine,” he said.
Major factors that have contributed to tourism growth are the additional flights supplied by Nok Air and Thai AirAsia, an absence of natural disasters and stable social and economic conditions.
In addition to air services, the province is linked by highways and is the only Andaman coast town that has a railway link from Bangkok.
Most foreign visitors are Europeans, especially from Scandinavia who book long-stay, leisure holidays at beachfront bungalows, mostly between November to March. Recently, there has also been a strong growth in arrivals from neighbouring Malaysia.
From January to October this year, the province received 910,000 visitors both domestic and foreign. About 70% of all visitors are Thais.
