Australian Capital Tourism will be rehashing its successful Wrapt in Winter campaign this season, after a strong response from the domestic market last year.
The new domestic campaign will utilise the wraptinwinter.com site, through which short-break holiday suggestions such as current exhibitions and wine experiences will be highlighted.
?Last year was pretty much the first time Australian Capital Tourism has presented Canberra as a winter destination,? said Simon Shepard, Australian Capital Tourism General Manager.
?We had fantastic results and people agreed that it wasn't a bad thing to come down for a three day weekend and sit by the fire, enjoy a lovely glass of Canberra red, or go see some of the wonderful cultural institutions, or even go for a bike ride.?
Off the back of the success of the ?Masterpieces from Paris? exhibition, exclusively showcased at the National Gallery of Australia, the ACT hopes to utilise the momentum generated to continue stimulating interest.
To this end, the ACT government will be investing $500,000 in the new Wrapt in Winter campaign, and working with airline partner Virgin Blue, which aims at drawing domestic travellers from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
At the media launch last week, Australian Capital Tourism also alluded to the introduction of a brand new major event earmarked for March next year. While no firm details can be revealed, Ms Shepard described the festival as an ?evening extravaganza?.
