CAN THO Community-based tourism service providers in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho need to be evaluated and classified by a “quality label”.
Local media reported Kangwon National University representative Prof Lee Seung-koo suggesting the benefits of the quality check screen at a recent workshop on ecotourism held in Can Tho City.
“The city needs to evaluate the service standards and quality of community-based tourism enterprises and classify them through a “quality label” to ensure they provide quality services and do not overcharge tourists.”
He said the assessment should be based on transparent standards, while the authorities should study successful models of community-based tourism elsewhere to ensure the business model is correct and standards are high.
Business households should also be offered soft loans to improve their tours and services, he added.
According to the city’s tourism development plan up to 2030, Can Tho will expand community-based tourism around river life, the province’s abundance of orchards as well as local history and culture.
Last year, Can Tho welcomed more than 5.4 million visitors, up 14% compared with 2015.
