Cambodia’s First Lady, Dr Pich Chanmony Hun Manet, is promoting the traditional Khmer sbai—an intricately embroidered stole often decorated with gold thread—as a cultural souvenir for world leaders attending the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh in November 2026. The initiative aims to showcase Cambodia’s traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage to an international audience during a major diplomatic gathering.
The summit is expected to welcome 80 to 90 official delegations representing the 93 member states and governments of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). Alongside diplomatic meetings, Cambodia will host a Francophonie Village at Wat Botum Vatey Garden from November 13 to 17, offering another platform to present the country’s cultural heritage and economic potential.
In a social media post on Sunday, Dr Pich Chanmony described the sbai as a sacred fabric representing Cambodian elegance and highlighted its continued use from ancient times to the present.
The First Lady, who also serves as Commissioner-General of the Cambodian Girl Guides Association, is championing the traditional textile as a way to introduce Cambodia’s cultural identity to international leaders.

The initiative places emphasis on the sbai not simply as a decorative accessory, but as a cultural object connected to Khmer traditions and craftsmanship.
Presenting traditional textiles to international visitors can also create opportunities to increase awareness of Cambodian artisans and the skills involved in producing heritage crafts.
The supplied report does not specify the number of sbai souvenirs being prepared, the artisans involved, their production locations or the budget allocated to the initiative.
